Stratford-upon-Avon is a vibrant and unique market town.
It is unique because it is the birthplace of William Shakespeare and it is vibrant because it attracts 3.5 million visitors a year. Now a multi-million pound initiative is underway to enable Stratford to meet the challenges demanded of a town that holds a position of global importance.
Known as World Class Stratford, the aim of the project is to transform the town’s image in a variety of ways to enable it to truly fulfil its role as one of the world’s most iconic locations.
David Moorcroft sees Stratford as playing a crucial role in the London Games – not least because of it having the same name as the location in east London where the Games will be held. He also has great personal affection for the town.
“I was born in Coventry and Stratford was a long, long day out,” he said. “I’ve always been proud of what Stratford is and what it does for the county. For that reason I am also proud to be associated with what Stratford is trying to achieve.”
